Return of the Curious Man

We are pleased to inform you that the Curious Man has survived his 'accidental' fall from the ramparts of the Monsanto Castle.

The CM's Nice Friends, although vaguely enjoying the sensation of a journey without him, were never worried because they knew that the CM would always land on his feet.

`Hey! Where did everyone go? Guys?

CMNWNFNH tries to disguise himself under a roof tile...

“Oh..you're back,” says NW. “We wondered where you'd got to...”
It was time to flee Monsanto before questions started being asked.

CM and Co head for Coimbra,

On the way, CM rings the Coimbra accomodation and asks the Portuguese host in French, if she speaks English...

Everyone is happy CM survived...

Coimbra is the home of the world's second oldest university.

Undergrads from the the Faculty of Juggling preparing for their exams

It also houses a gorgeous library

unfortunately too gorgeous to allow its picture to be taken-these are just some old books in the basement

and a medieval prison for recalcitrant students  where CMNWNF reads the riot act

and CM and CMNWNFNH make sure they've paid their library fines...

and of course, Coimbra has the obligatory tiles...

very steep stairs..

and street art..

It's hit 20 degs so time to get the sandals out....

Coimbra also has some lovely shops..

and signposts.

shopping for a miracle

and faux pianos with faux pianists..

It was here, at the Garden of the Mermaid, that CM and his mates were involved in a car accident.
But it was not CM's fault! The Portuguese host who did speak English (and luckily French) took CM &Co on a little sightseeing tour. Five minutes after boasting about what a good driver she was, she bumped into the car in front.
No-one was hurt except for the host's pride and her boss's car and no one could blame the CM.

See? Miracles do occur!

  1. As an ex librarian I was very pleased that the fines were paid.

    1. And you'd probably have loved to have a prison to jail those recalcitrant borrowers!

  2. I loved that Library. Day I was there was over 35 degrees so I took the outdoor elevator, not the stairs. They are very steep.
Glad no one was hurt in the bingle.

    2. They certainly are. Luckily we only went down them, not up! And it was probably only half that temperature-wise. Our accomodation virtually backed on to the `Uni..
It was a beautiful library, amazing.
