Curious Man to the Rescue

Part 15
Curious Man
to the
Rescue!

Days 36 to 38
We'll  leave Bras today and drive through some heavily poppy-lated areas..

..for a stay in Cucuron.

Reflections of Cucuron..

There'll be a bit of trouble getting back inside the hotel room.
The Curious Man will have turned the key in the door in such a way that it can't be unlocked.

After many failed attempts including dismantling the door handle,  Cesare, the fellow on duty, will reluctantly ring Tomas, his boss to come and open it.

"Sorry Tomas, but we have a Curious Man emergency ."

Tomas will be there in a flash-
and with consummate skill, will unlock the door.
Voila!
He waggles the fourth finger of his left hand. .??

It's his Wedding Day-
he's deserted his own wedding to open the Curious Man's door!
Mon Dieu!

Whilst at Curcuron you'll have the chance to take a kayak trip along the fast flowing waters at Fontaine de Vaucluse.
And if you're lucky, you'll witness the Curious Man and his Nice Wife embarking on a daring rescue mission.

This lady is about to be up Merde Creek without a paddle...

But never fear, CM and NW will race ahead of the rapid current and with the help of CM's expert navigating, NW will fearlessly lean over the treacherous waters and retrieve the oar.
'Mercis' all round.
If not for the Curious Man, that lady may have ended up in the Mediterranean!

After all that excitement, it'll be time to peruse the wares at the Isle-sur-le-Sorgue antiques market..

The Curious Man indulges in his obsession with knockers.

It's tiring work dealing with the Curious Man.

Curious Man Almost goes to the Top

Part 14

Curious Man
Almost Goes
to the
Top

 Days at Bras continued.

You may be enchanted to know that this area of Provence was once inhabited by a certain Mary Magdalen!
Yes, she had an eye for a view and spent most of her life here after being set adrift in a boat on the Mediterranean. We'll be visiting her old hangouts- the Basilica in the next village and her place of abode for THIRTY YEARS, a huge cave, set way, way up against the cliffs.

Apparently, after Jerusalem and Rome, this place is the world’s third most popular spot for pilgrims. (according to the local tourist guides)

To get to the cave…….

..you’ll need to stand in the car park, look up and perhaps wonder,
“Wow! How did she ever think of setting up home there?”

Then you’ll start walking..

..through fields and forests, and ancient woods, up the rocky twisting path.

on and on, up and up.
Until finally…

you’ll come to these..

and then you’ll reach the top..
(well, it’s actually only halfway up the gorge –she has another little getaway at the very top-not included on this tour)

You'll love the view!

There’ll be time to explore the cave which now has a church attached.

Although it may be a warm summer’s day outside, please dress warmly as it is VERY COLD in the cave and the near-sighted will have their lenses fog up.

 to be continued...
