Curious Man Goes to the Top Yet Again

Part 12
Curious Man
Tests Out
the
French Riviera

Day 28

Having said our 'ciaos' to Italy, we’ll be cruising along the coast into the French Riviera, where the Ferraris are a dime a dozen and the strawberries cost $20 a punnet.

Of course we’ll have timed your stay here to coincide with the end of the Cannes film festival and the start of the Grand Prix, so accommodation will be at a premium.
We’ll be staying in the garden apartment at the Villa Patricia in Villefranche Sur Mer for double the normal rate.

C’est la vie.

You’ll be pleased to know that the Curious Man will return to form by breaking the garden chair five minutes after checking in.

"That'll teach 'em to charge us double," says the Curious Man

"Not to worry. It was very old," the hostess will assure the Curious Man.

Time to make a quick getaway up to Le Jardin Exotique d'Eze, built on the ruins of a medieval fortress.

You can stay here till closing time if you like, the Curious Man and his Nice Wife certainly did.

This lady may have stayed a little too long.

The medieval village of Eze will be  equally entrancing..

Those of you with heavy pockets may choose to eat at the L’Chevre D’Or, but the Curious Man can only afford to photograph the menu….

Never mind, there are plenty of choices in Villefrance sur Mer
And it’s a lovely stroll down to the town.

where you can have a delicious Pizza at a little restaurant under the church and dabble in a little ‘cat’ photography..

A rare treat-cat obligingly poses for photo.

Day 29

After a lovely breakfast, we’ll be driving up, up, up

to the village of La  Turbie where you can visit their ancient Roman monument, the Trophy of Augustus. A magnificent edifice of mammoth proportions, it was built by Augustus to celebrate his victory over the troublesome Alpen tribes.

We’ll arrange a personal guide to unlock the gates, take you to the very top of this impressive sight and, with the sounds of Formula 1 engines ringing in your ears, he’ll answer all your questions about power plays and marketing tactics in 6 BC.

Curious Man tip no 6: Please dress warmly because it’ll be cold, windy and raining up there. (The Curious Man didn’t.)

On the way we’ll arrange for you to have a little peek at the Monaco Grand Prix. Yes, that’s right. With the aid of powerful binoculars, if you look carefully, you will see those mighty machines, roaring round the track.

Nice Wife gets a bird's eye view of the Grand Prix
Look carefully, there's a racing car down there
It's not just the Curious Man who likes living on the edge

Then it’s on the road again to an uplifting destination!
