Curious Man Cleans Up His Plate

Part 18
Curious Man
Cleans Up
His Plate

Days 43, 44 Lyon

Just what the Curious Man has been waiting for-Lyon-the

gastronomic capital of France.

We've chosen three very different food experiences for you.

First up is the Cafe des Federations-hearty country cooking

just like Maman's.

Curious Man will use his magnetic charm to snare a table

and the dishes are plonked in front of you.

Curious Man chooses blood pudding  and the Nice Wife chooses the 'safe'* option-sausages and mash.

*Nice Wife tip number 1:
Before leaving Australia, have the French word for 'intestine' firmly in your mind.
(although it was quite tasty)

Easy to save money in Lyon-you only need one meal a day

You can spend the money you've saved at the Lyon antiques market

and pick up the "bargain of the century"-a'priceless' Art Nouveau glass lampshade with a piece out of it for just 15 euros.
But don't gloat for too long because in an hour's time, the Nice Wife will have dropped it on the floor and then there'll be a million pieces out of it..

Not to worry, take your mind off this disaster by taking in an avant garde juggling display at Lyon's ancient Roman amphitheatre..

and then watch the Curious Man as he forces open the recalcitrant Metro gates for the dozens of Lyonnites trying to get on the train

Grateful passengers going home all thanks to the Curious Man.
"Merci, merci beaucoup Curious Man!"

Next day it's Sunday lunch at Brasserie Leon de Lyon.

Plump passer-by prompts Curious Man to re-think that luscious dessert (but not for long)
To finish off your time in Lyon and work off all those carbs, take an evening stroll around the city

As you're probably still pretty full something light is called for, so our last gastronomic experience will be a nice bowl of French Onion soup at Brasserie Georges.

Curious Man Tip number 9:
Never order a bowl of authentic French Onion soup on a first date

and to finish this gastronomic edition of the Curious Man, here's an idea from Leon de Lyon on what to do with your used champagne wrappers:
